Samsung will introduce OLED screens with speakers built into the JANUARY 2019 CES!

Samsung will present its OLED Sound on Display technology, with built-in speakers, as part of the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, which will take place in early January 2019. This innovation will allow the manufacturer to offer 100% borderless smartphones and TVs. We take stock of these revolutionary new screens.

Sound on Display smartphones and screens will appear next month at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, our South Korean colleagues from ETNews report. According to industry sources, Samsung will first present a series of fully functional prototypes. In a second phase, the manufacturer could market a Sound on Display device by the end of the year.

Samsung to unveil smartphones and TVs with piezoelectric OLED display in 2019

Sound on Display technology uses vibrations and bone conduction to transmit the sound of a smartphone, or mobile device, to your ear. In the context of a television, the screen relies instead on vibrations to transmit sound waves. The screen itself works like a speaker, ETNews explains.

This technology will first allow Samsung to once again reduce the borders that circle smartphone screens. Similarly, the manufacturer could thus ignore both the notch and the hole in the screen. Thanks to the Sound on Display, Samsung is getting closer and closer to the New Infinity screens, teased at the Samsung Developper Conference last November.

On the TV side, this innovation will allow us to design even thinner screens, capable of blending into the décor. As a reminder, Samsung has already presented some of its Sound on Display screens as part of the Society of Information Displays (SID) in June 2018.

At last year’s CES, LG has already presented TVs with screens with built-in speakers, the “Crystal Sound OLED TV”. We will know more at this year’s CES, which will open its doors from 8 to 12 January 2019.
