Qualcomm denies the rumors: the Snapdragon 820 does not overheat!

Qualcomm has just published a long message on Weibo to silence rumors around its latest processor. No, the Snapdragon 820 doesn’t overheat!

After the controversy surrounding the Snapdragon 810 that caused overheating problems on many smartphones, Qualcomm is no longer entitled to error. However, a few days ago, Business Korea reported that the Snapdragon 820 was suffering from overheating problems that Samsung was struggling to solve while it is currently testing the Soc in its Galaxy S7. For Qualcomm, this is all lies and he wanted to let the world know today.

It is through Weibo that the chip manufacturer has chosen to be heard. In particular, the Snapdragon 820 has the latest requirements for cooling and performance and that its development is ongoing.

Specifically, Qualcomm is referring to Samsung’s 14 nanometer FinFET production process, but also to the four Kryo cores shipped by the Snapdragon 820, which are supposed to offer twice as much power and energy efficiency as the snapdragon 810’s eight cores. In addition, the Adreno 530 graphics chip embedded by the Soc is expected to offer graphics performance 40% higher than the Adreno 430 GPU of the 810 for lower energy consumption.

The fact is that there is never smoke without fire and that the latest rumours were of overheating problems. Are they really well founded? The technical part of the chip suggests that it’s not, but we can also imagine that Samsung and Qualcomm are currently taking every precaution to prevent the Soc from encountering the same problem as its predecessor.

Especially since the stakes are even higher than a year ago since not only did Samsung manage to impose its latest Exynos chip in no less than four smartphones this year. In addition, in recent months, Qualcomm’s main competitor, MediaTek has grown to some extent. The company must therefore make a no-fault with its new Soc.
