BMW i4 M50, here is the autonomy in winter according to Bjørn Nyland

The new BMW i4 seems to have started very well, commercially speaking, at least according to reports from the German brand. It is a very interesting model that is offered in two versions: BMW i4 eDrive40 and BMW i4 M50. The second variant ended up in the hands of the well-known Youtuber Bjørn Nyland who decided to carry out a range test in conditions of low temperatures.

The car has an 83.9 kWh battery (total capacity – 80.7 kWh the usable one) and according to the German brand can count on a range of up to 510 km according to the WLTP cycle. We have seen, however, that the more accurate EPA cycle has lowered the mileage data. With 19-inch wheels the range reaches up to 434 km which drops to 365 km with 20-inch wheels. In the case of this winter test, the i4 M50 had 19-inch wheels with winter tyres (Pirelli P Zero Winter). The test took place with a temperature close to zero (1-2 degrees). In short, not optimal conditions for an electric. Battery-powered cars, as we know, tend to “suffer” from low temperatures.

According to the footage, the BMW i4 M50, in these conditions, managed to travel 385 km at a speed of 90 km/h equal to an average consumption of 207 Wh/km. The 120 km/h test, on the other hand, offers an estimate of the range based on power consumption and the estimated battery capacity from the test at 90 km/h. At this speed, the estimated range decreased by 26% to 285 km.

Discrete values but worse, from the point of view of efficiency, than those obtained by all Tesla Model 3 in very similar conditions. Obviously, with the increase in temperatures and with the use of summer tires, the distances will only improve.
