Meta continues to lay off part of its staff: after the conspicuous cuts that took place in 2022 and 2023, at least 60 employees will lose their jobs as part of Mark Zuckerberg’s plan to increase the efficiency of the organization.
This time it’s the turn of Instagram’s technical program managers, as confirmed by people familiar with the facts and a post published on the Blind app. Meta’s desire would seem to be precisely to permanently eliminate the professional figure of the Technical Program Manager (TPM), however, employees are offered the opportunity to apply for the role of program manager. In the event that the profile is not suitable for the new job, the employee will terminate the employment relationship in March.
Mark Zuckerberg intends to eliminate intermediate professional figures – the TPM is positioned between the technical task – the engineer, for example – and the product manager – to streamline the company organization chart and optimize resources. In recent months, the company’s restructuring has led not only to layoffs, but also to the elimination of many managerial roles.
There is still a lot of uncertainty about the future: Meta has not ruled out other cuts, as revealed during a meeting with staff. After all, the company is firmly determined to bring the workforce back to pre-Covid values: in fact, it has been reiterated several times how the massive hiring campaign that took place during the pandemic has led to an unsustainable number of employees.
