League of Legends unveils its new Vampire Survivors-style co-op mode

Are you ready to experience League of Legends in a new light? If solo queues in ranked mode have finally gotten the better of your mind, Riot Games is preparing an ideal mode to unleash your nerves on waves of enemies, alone or with friends. Last April, the studio responsible for the most popular MOBA revealed the development of a new style of gameplay, inspired by the bullet hell genre popularized by the famous Vampire Survivors. After two months with no news about the project, the teams have finally unveiled the final form of this game mode designed to animate a new big event.

Two years after their introduction in 2022, the Anima Squad skins are back and offer a Star Guardian-level story, to be discovered in PvE games. As humanity’s last bastion, the defenders of this elite unit will have to face the Primordians, primordial creatures that borrow their traits and abilities from different animal life forms. These fights will take place in Swarm/Operation: Anima Squad, the survival mode promised by Riot Games last April. The festivities will begin on July 17 and end on August 19. Unfortunately, this PvE mode won’t be permanent – contrary to what the studio suggested in the initial presentation – but it could very well return if players are interested enough.

Up to 4 players will be able to embark on the Swarm adventure to end the Primordian invasion. It will be possible to select different champions from the line of Anima Squad skins, which will offer different actions from the skills usually available in the games. In this new mode, you’ll have to ditch the mouse in favor of a series of keyboard controls, via the WASD keys. As in Vampire Survivors, the attacks will be activated automatically, and all you have to do is move the character to avoid enemy assaults.

In the new Final City map, players will have to survive for as long as possible, completing missions to improve their arsenal. In addition to bonuses to unlock in the middle of the game, a new currency offered as an end-of-game reward will allow you to purchase powerful Power-Ups to permanently increase the abilities of playable heroes, such as a roguelike.

This is arguably the best worked on and original PvE mode to date. We can only hope that success is there to find this type of gameplay more frequently. The release of Swarm will of course be accompanied by a big wave of skins, with no less than 14 new skins on hugely popular champions such as Yasuo, Xayah, Seraphine or the latest character: Aurora.
