Not only football (European), also cinema: Apple’s plans for TV + seem to be definitely expanding, although for the moment neither for the Premier League, nor to bring its productions in theaters there are official confirmations.
The Cupertino company would have ready 1 billion dollars to spend every year to produce films that will be distributed in theaters, a project designed to extend its business by being recognized on the market as a true film studio by increasing its weight in Hollywood and to encourage subscription to its subscription.
Bloomberg reports that several talks are already underway with some studios to bring the first titles to the cinema as early as this year. Films include Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon (with Leonardo DiCaprio), Ridley Scott’s Napoleon with Joaquin Phoenix and Matthew Vaughn’s Argyle with Dual Lipa and Henry Cavill.
“The company doesn’t have the in-house expertise to distribute films to thousands of theaters around the world at the same time,” Bloomberg explains, “so it turned to third-party distributors.” Some Apple TV+ movies have already arrived in theaters in the past, but a huge investment like the one envisaged would represent a significant change of gear: the broader project would serve to bring the Apple brand into the world of great cinema.
