A new rumor suggests that Apple is preparing to unveil a new version of Siri enhanced with generative AI and capable of offering a number of new features. The ideal time to unveil it could be during this year’s WWDC.
The report was published on the Korean news site, Naver, where it is claimed that Apple has made significant progress in integrating generative intelligence into Siri using its LLM called Ajax. The first rumors date back to July, when Mark Gurman first mentioned the large language model.
The new version of Siri is expected to offer natural conversational capabilities, as well as more personalization for users. It’s also expected to be available on multiple devices, which means the same conversation context will be maintained when switching between iPhones and iPads, for example. In addition to these features, the new version of Siri is also expected to include a new, unspecified “creative service” and direct links to various external services.
It’s also possible that some of the new AI features could be tied to some form of subscription to the service, but for now, that’s just speculation. In fact, even Google with Bard Advanced could propose a subscription formula, as has emerged in these hours.
Truth be told, the Naver blog account has a mixed record of predicting Apple’s plans, but some of its claims have turned out to be accurate. For example, in 202 it accurately unveiled some details about the third-generation iPhone SE ahead of its launch. Overall, it’s plausible that Apple is planning to make significant changes to Siri this year, as current voice assistants seem decidedly outdated compared to new AI technologies. If the new version lives up to expectations, it could be a major step forward for Apple’s assistant.
