Circle to Seek which was introduced along with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series has over time become one of the most standout feature of Android phones. Today, this feature is changing by encompassing the possibility to scan barcodes and QR codes.
A silent yet noticable statement
Google shared this pretty small but looking quite thrilling news on September 3, through an unreservedly teasing tweet. All the information was highlighted and pointed out to us by Sam Mobile. The tweet that resulted in a war of words compared the hard mode of performing a screenshot, navigating through photos, scanning the code, and click to open against Circle to Search, a tool that lets you scan QR codes and barcodes on your screen without leaving the app.
An expected feature
The idea of scanning both barcodes and QR codes had been discussed multiple times during the various codes analyses since in May The QR codes were implemented during the APK deconstruction in July and they look almost complete at that time.
How does it work?
This new feature will mean that, Circle to Search is able when browsing or view Images on your phone. It’s then possible to select or circle the area of the picture that has the QR code or the barcode. The search then decode it and What appears is either the link of the coded information, or any other information stored in the code. In addition to Circle to search, Google has also announced the improvement updates in QR code scanning in general for the usability with one hand, as well as in the quick settings.
Google normally releases updates like this in phases and the update might already be on your Phone if you have Circle to search after an update from Google’s team. There was no information in the Google’s announcement other than saying that it is available and the user did not know whether if it was a service side update or by the Google app. But if you don’t see it yet, you’ll have to wait a day or two to find out since the update is only available to a certain number of devices.
