The Gorilla Glass Victus has just been revealed by Corning. This new glass, which will probably equip the Galaxy Note 20, is capable of surviving a fall of more than two meters, and offers twice as much scratch resistance as the Gorilla Glass 6, the current generation of mobile glass.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra may well carry the toughest protective glass ever developed by Corning. Indeed, the manufacturer unveiled this Thursday, July 23, 2020 its new mobile glass: the Gorilla Glass Victus. Over this generation, Corning marks an unprecedented evolution.
Indeed, the Gorilla Glass Victus is able to survive a fall of more than two meters, but above all it is twice as resistant to scratches as the current Gorilla Glass 6. This is a major step forward, in the sense that Corning has had little improvement in scratch resistance since the Gorilla Glass 3, launched in 2014. As our colleagues at The Verge point out, the situation had even worsened over the following generations,Corning having put all his efforts on resistance to falls, to the detriment of scratch resistance.
Finally, full protection
Corning, therefore, the Gorilla Glass Victus protects both falls and scratches,as no other Corning protective glass has ever done before. How did Corning achieve this result? A new mineral? Hours and hours of nanotechnology research? None of that. Just“a lot of error and trial” and more than ten years of work on the subject.
In truth, there are no secrets. Corning’s engineers and scientists invent and test hundreds of glass compositions, and try them, until they find the right formula. Years and years of experience have led To Corning the Gorilla Glass Victus. Note that the Gorilla Glass Victus replaces the Gorilla Glass 7. The numbering stops with this new generation. “Wefelt that a glass of this quality deserved a name that clearly shows that the meaning goes beyond the incremental,” Corning said in the TechCrunch columns.
As previously stated, Samsung will be the first manufacturer to integrate the Gorilla Glass Victus into its devices in the“near future”. Perhaps we will have the answer when the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Z Fold 2 are officially presented on August 5, 2020. As a reminder, the two companies are long-standing partners. Samsung and Corning are currently working together to develop ultra-thin glass for the manufacturer’s next foldable smartphones.
