The Huawei P60 Series is definitely lagging behind: the previous generation, consisting of the P50 and P50 Pro, arrived in August 2021. As we know, the Chinese company is in great difficulty due to the ban imposed by the United States, which has forced it to give up crucial in the smartphone sector such as 5G connectivity and access to the Play Store (and consequently to all Google services). However, Huawei does not throw in the towel; Indeed, it seems that the launch of the new generation of flagships is now imminent – according to the latest rumors there is talk of a launch during the month of March.
The main changes should concern display, battery and camera system. Meanwhile, the range will consist as usual of two main models, namely the P60 and the P60 Pro, and will have a decidedly different style from what has been seen so far. Instead of being made up of two round “portholes” of generous size on top of each other, the camera module will have an unusual shape – a black rectangle with rounded corners with a slightly larger circle in between. The images leaked in the past few hours seem to indicate that the style will be very similar between the two models, although as you can see below the P60 Pro will have some contrasting accents.
As for the specifications and improvements, let’s go by points for greater reading convenience:
Huawei P60 Pro:
6.6″ display, 120 Hz, OLED, manufactured by BOE, very high frequency PWM dimming (1,920 Hz). The resolution will be 1440p (1,440 x 3,200p). The P50 Pro had, by comparison, a resolution of 1,228 x 2,700 pixels.
Chip: 4G-only variant of the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 (P50 had S888)
Selfie camera: 32 MP
Main camera: 50 MP, Sony IMX888 sensor (currently unpublished).
Ultra-wide-angle camera: 50 MP, probably another Sony sensor, the IMX858. P50 Pro had a 13 MP.
Zoom camera: it could remain the same sensor seen on the P50 Pro, a 64MP OmniVision OV64B
Battery: 5,500 mAh (P50 Pro had a 4,360 mAh)
Charging: 100W wireless, 50W wired (P50 Pro: 66W and 50W)
Huawei P60:
Main camera: 52 MP, Sony IMX789, 1/1.35″ format with 1.12 micrometer pixels
Ultra-wide-angle camera: same 50MP IMX858 seen on the Pro
Zoom camera: 16 MP, maybe a Sony IMX351
Common specifications:
Kunlun glass coating
IP68 certification against water and dust
Support for satellite communication, although probably only via the Chinese BeiDou constellation (as seen on the Mate 50)
XMAGE proprietary image processing system
The variable aperture system seen on the P50 Pro should return, this time also on the “smooth” P60
HarmonyOS operating system, fork of Android with proprietary services and app stores.
