Instagram launches ads in the Store tab for sponsored products

Instagram announced on Tuesday (24) the global launch of a new advertising feature. Starting today, the App Store tab will receive ads, bringing another evolution to its e-commerce platform integrated into the social network. The novelty is already available in Brazil and in all countries where the trade guide was implemented.

Instagram’s ecommerce feature was launched last year and marked Facebook’s first step in integrating shopping functionality into the social network. The Store tab is almost in the center of the navigation bar and is even more accessible than the photo upload button.

Now, after a testing period in the United States in early August, Instagram has officially launched the advertising feature globally to “make it even easier to discover brands and products for people who are already browsing a shopping environment,” as the platform said in a press release.

Instagram advances in e-commerce
This is the latest commercial advancement of the application. Previously, Instagram had already integrated the Shopping feature with Reels to compete more directly with TikTok, allowing the purchase of products through labels that brands can put on videos. In addition, the platform also organized exclusive launches for its store and added resources for content creators to earn a commission on sales of sponsored products.

Currently, items in the Store appear in a grid of two square columns. Ads will appear as a block within this structure, but will be marked as “Sponsored” in the lower left corner of the image. When the user clicks on an ad, they are redirected to a Product Details page, which will bring information, images, prices, and other related brand items.

You can also save a product from your ad to your wish list or share it with others. Another feature present allows the reporting of advertising that users may consider inappropriate, accessible when pressing and holding the block. The feature is only available in the Instagram mobile app, as the desktop version has not yet received the Store feature.
