iOS 18, the Home Screen will be much more customizable | Rumor

iOS 18 will be more customizable: this is claimed by two independent sources – Mark Gurman of Bloomberg and colleagues at MacRumors – in their respective articles published in the past few hours. There are few concrete additional details – in fact only one, and that is that the user will have more freedom in rearranging the icons of the Homescreen, according to MacRumors.

The American newspaper speculates that Apple could allow you to create single icons, columns and empty rows between the icons already present – a feature that, with limited capabilities, some customization apps such as Widgetsmith already offer, but which in the “official” version could become more complete, integrated and refined. Finally, there is generic talk of “other customization options”, but unfortunately it does not go beyond that.

Gurman, for his part, doesn’t go out of his way at all, and remains on the most vague at all. However, the American journalist believes that iOS 18, which is scheduled to be presented this spring at WWDC 2024 and whose release should take place in the fall, around the release of the new iPhones, will implement several innovations based on artificial intelligence that on the one hand will help the user to do daily chores and on the other hand will generate content of various kinds, ChatGPT-style.

According to previous rumors, support for the next-generation RCS messaging protocol will also arrive, a standard on which Google pushes a lot and which should improve text communication between iPhones and Android devices (it is a problem mainly in North America, since WhatsApp is not particularly widespread there and relies heavily on iMessage).

A greater versatility of the Homescreen is also very plausible because last year it was the turn of the Lock Screen: with iOS 16, Apple introduced a whole series of tools and procedures to allow the user to make it much more personal – and it was also focused a lot during the presentation keynote. See you at the next WWDC, in short, probably in June.
