Apple has confirmed that it intends to comply with EU regulations and that even the next iPhone will therefore comply with the need to present itself on the European market with a USB-C connector, thus marking the definitive sunset of the lightning port that has now accompanied us for 10 years.
The transition to Type-C will also bring with it other news, especially with regard to the data transfer speed in the Pro (or Ultra) models, according to what has been reported in the last hours by the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has always been very attentive and well informed about what happens in the Apple world.
THE SPEEDS OF THE NEW DOOR
Kuo confirms that the switch will take place across the entire lineup, but the base models – so iPhone 15 and 15 Plus – will continue to adopt the USB 2.0 data transmission protocol, so there is talk once again of a maximum speed of 480 Mbps. Things will change drastically on the Pro/Ultra models, since Kuo suggests that on these variants we will switch at least to the USB 3.2 protocol, but it is likely that Apple will go as far as Thunderbolt 3 territory. In both cases we are talking about 20 Gbps and 40 Gbps respectively, speeds that would bring the iPhone on par with Apple’s flagship products.
On the other hand, users who feel the weight of the current limits are precisely those who use the Pro series models, as features such as video recording in ProRes have placed the latest iPhones in front of the need to be able to count on faster ports to transfer data so much demanding, which does not happen on the basic models.
In short, the transition to Type-C will be very important, but once again we are witnessing a further differentiation between the basic models and those of the premium segment. This year we have seen how iPhone 14 is profoundly different from the iPhone 14 Pro (here our review) and it seems that the trend is destined to continue.
