[Maj] Snapdragon 820: 35% more efficient, GPU Adreno 530 and official announcement on 11 Aoû…

Update of 05/08/2015: New information has just been released about the Snapdragon 820.
With a 14nm finFET engraving like the Exynos 7420, the 820 would offer an architecture consisting of 4 Hydra processors and not Kryo, which should improve performance by almost 40%.

On the graphic side, as we said, it would be an Adreno 530 that improves performance by 40% and allows energy consumption 30% lower than previous models. The Snapdragon 820 will feature dual-channel slots, LPDDR4 (up to 1866 MHz), support 28-megapixel photo sensors with programmable DSP, 4K -60 frames/second videos and a sensor to activate an energy-saving mode.

The Snapdragon 820 is expected to be released at the end of 2015, which also features “clear improvements in thermal behavior” the information leak also provided this Qualcomm schedule:

Is it still necessary to introduce you to these System-on-Chip (SoC) designed by Qualcomm? Powering three-quarters of your smartphones, these chips typically include one or more microprocessors, memory and other interface devices. Qualcomm, their manufacturer, is currently in a bad place and is betting a lot on the announcement of its next Snapdragon 820.

The bad pass, they owe it of course to the setbacks of The Snapdragon 810. However, this processor had good feedback, unfortunately, the first signs of the decline of its short career resulted in signs of overheating causing the extinction of the Sony Xperia Z3 after a few minutes of intensive use.

Unsuring Snapdragon 810? The manufacturer’s denials and tests were not enough, the fate was already cast and a boycott around the processor was immediately felt, plunging Qualcomm into a crisis situation that forced it to lay off nearly 15% of its employees.

Since then, the manufacturer has been providing revised versions of its cursed processor in the hope of filling the expectations generated by its next SoC. Because if all goes well, the latter could secure him a new place of choice in the industry, a place he could start to regain on August 11 at a conference in Las Vegas.

Naturally, the American company is expected at the turn, especially since rumors would already want to kill in the egg (dragon) the model 820, claiming that it would heat as much as the 810. One imagines that Qualcomm is feverishly waiting for the moment when it can present its new product and nail the beak to the gossipers. However, we will probably have to wait until 2016 before we see this SoC in real use, once integrated into our future smartphones.

From what is widely known, the SoC involving thezeroth artificial intelligence platform should also carry brand new cores called Kryo, ending the use of ARM Cortex.

Other corridor noises indicate that the graphics chip would be an Adreno 530 clocked at 650 MHz, that LPDDR4 compatibility would accompany a 4K encoding capacity – 60 frames/second, 4K decoding – 30 frames/second as well as the 4G LTE category 10. Answer on August 11.
