On Nvidia’s upcoming events page, it was confirmed that the company will hold a new Special Address event at CES 2024. The appointment is set for January 8 at 5 p.m. Italian time – one day in advance of the opening of the Las Vegas event to the public – and it is likely that it will turn out to be the stage for the presentation of GeForce RTX 40 Super consumer video cards, protagonists of a large number of rumors in recent months.
According to what has been reported in recent months by numerous sources, Nvidia would be working on three video cards of the RTX 40 Super series, an intergenerational subfamily always based on Ada Lovelace architecture but designed to increase performance without an increase in consumption. This, at least, according to leaker kopite7kimi who not too long ago also claimed that the new Nvidia GPUs would be unveiled during CES 2024.
Also thanks to kopite7kimi we also know a part of the alleged technical characteristics of the three cards: the GeForce RTX 4070 Super, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super and GeForce RTX 4080 Super. Only one of these, however, has gained possible confirmation with the appearance of the packaging design and it is the RTX 4070 Ti Super, a model initially considered unlikely due to the particular name that combines two special Nvidia series. But it is clear that in terms of nomenclature, it is the only possible alternative if you want to introduce a Super model between the RTX 4070 Ti and the RTX 4080.
That said, the most interesting of the three cards could be the RTX 4070 Super, which is rumored to feature 22% more CUDA cores than the RTX 4070. Instead, we’re talking about 10% more CUDA cores than the RTX 4070 Ti for the RTX 4070 Ti Super and 5% more than the RTX 4080 for the RTX 4080 Super, apparently constrained by the maximum specs of the AD103 chip. But the actual performance increase of the new models could also be influenced by other factors, such as frequencies.
