Google Home is no more! After 4 years of existence, the small connected speaker is bowing out. But in reality, Google’s speaker is not going to disappear completely. No, Google simply decided to rename it when a new model was released. And that’s how the Nest Audio speaker arrives.
Nest Audio: Remember this name, as it’s google’s new connected speaker. If the device has already shown itself this summer through an official video, we now know all about it. The speaker, still without a screen, but with four diodes on the front like its predecessors (Home Mini, Home Max…), obviously pulsates with the help of Google Assistant.
On this side, nothing changes. Call the device using OK Google and ask for the latest news or weather report, ask it in geography, mathematics, politics, history, pop culture… She will be able to answer you in most cases. The speaker can always listen to music on services such as Deezer, YouTube Music or Spotify, but also to spread a message to all other connected speakers in the home, or to make calls using Google Duo.
New name, new design
But then, what’s new? First change: the small speaker enjoys a new look. It retains its curves, but adopts a slightly more flattened shape than the old version. This makes it easier to carry and quickly slip it into a bag. Weighing 1.2 kg and measuring 17.5 x 12.4 x 7.6 cm, the small connected speaker is available in 4 colors: pink, blue, black and gray. Note in passing that only the grey enclosure and the black enclosure will be marketed in France.
In addition, Google has bet on audio quality, which was, admittedly, a little limited on the first Google Home. Google announces a sound 75% more powerful than on the old speaker. “More than 500 hours of adjustments have been made to balance the levels and provide a clear, deep sound that is as faithful as possible to the studio version,” Google explains.
To adjust the volume, simply tap the angles of the device. At the top of the enclosure, an area allows you to start playing or pause the device. Unlike the old edition and privacy requires, we now have a small button accessible at the first glance that allows to cut the microphone. The speaker can be paired for a second to play a stereo sound.
The Nest Audio speaker costs 99.99 euros and arrives on October 5th. It is already possible to pre-order it on the Google store.
