PS5 has become lighter thanks to a smaller cooling system

The PS5 has gained a new model that has gotten lighter and we already know this, but what did Sony do to change the weight of the console? Youtuber Austin Evans posted a video where he disassembles the device and shows that some internal details have changed, especially the cooling system, which is now smaller.

As soon as it was released by youtuber, the information caused some concern among fans. After all, the PS5 is heating up about 2 to 3 degrees more, according to the video. In addition, a hotter video game can bring long-term problems such as overheating or slow processing a little slower.

However, it seems that it is no cause for concern. The video also explains that the cooler that makes the air circulate inside the console was swapped in relation to the previous model, for an improved version. Thus, the cooling system has decreased, but the air circulation seems to compensate in some way.

Austin classifies the new model as “a worse PS5”, but that’s an answer that will only become clearer over time.

It is worth remembering that the lighter console model has begun to appear in some territories, such as Australia and Japan, and is not yet expected to reach the rest of the world. According to the Japanese console manual, the new version (CFI-1100B) weighs 3.6 kilos — 300 grams less than the previous edition (CFI-1000B) of 3.9 kilos.

Also according to the product manual, the revised model of the PS5 Digital Edition accompanies a different screw to fix the base of the console on the device, which can be handled only with the user’s hands, without special keys.

The lighter weight was already public knowledge, there was only doubt of what Sony had changed inside the device – on the outside it remains the same. Now it remains to be seen whether the change will bring any benefit or if it will make the PS5 worse in the long run.
