Rumor: Snapdragon 820 would heat up almost as much as Snapdragon 810

For more than six months, we have been talking about the Snapdragon 810 processor. And for good reason since the chip present in three quarters of the high end of 2015 poses serious problems of overheating and suffers from very bad publicity. Expected by the end of the year, the Snapdragon 820 should solve the problem but provided it does not overheat as well. And that’s where the problem lies because according to the famous leaker Ricciolo, it would be far from won for Qualcomm.

Would Qualcomm’s next chip also heat up?

Although Ricciolo’s rumours have often proved true, especially with regard to Sony mobiles, he has also been wrong. That’s why we’ll take this one with very big tweezers. However, when the 810’s overheating problems were first raised at the end of 2014, no one believed it. And yet, we know what happened next.

According to Ricciolo’s latest tweet, the “Snapdragon 810 and its successor are not that different in terms of overheating problems.” He then clarified that it would take until the S830 to see the problem “partially resolved”. It’s enough to lead an entire generation of flagships if this new rumor were to be confirmed.

From what we have read, Qualcomm seems to have done everything possible to prevent its Snapdragon 820 from suffering the same problems as its successor. The Soc will no longer be based on eight ARM cores but on four homemade hearts called Kryo clocked at 3 Ghz and the engraving should be assured by Samsung. The chip will be engraved in 14 nanometers.

In addition, it should also be taken into account that the processor is still in the testing phase and will not arrive immediately on the market. So, if a problem were to arise, there would still be time to resolve it. Especially since with four cores clocked at 3 Ghz, even lowering the frequency, it would theoretically be possible to reduce the temperature without affecting performance.

  • The first benchmarks of the Snapdragon 820 place it between the 810 and the Exynos of the Galaxy S6
