Samsung are starting to move away from lcd production to focus on a new technology, the QD-OLED. The group has launched a wave of investments and the CEO of Samsung Display announces the launch of the first products in the near future.
Samsung Display has shut down operations on some of its production lines dedicated to the manufacture of its 8th generation LCD screens, reports Korean media outlet The Elec. The group is said to have started its “Project C”, a phase in which it wants to gradually put the LCD aside to focus on other technologies. In particular, he is given ambitions on the QD-OLED.
Samsung bets on QD-OLED rather than LCD
This information was confirmed by Lee Dong-hoon, CEO of Samsung Display. “The company is making great efforts” to launch QD-OLED screens in the near future, he told the Korea Herald. Reports have already been reporting to Samsung for several months about the technology and major investments to come, the first time the firm has confirmed it half-heartedly.

The QD (Quantum Dot) is already availab presence on some of Samsung’s QLED TV models. “Quantum dot technology is the next step after UHD (Ultra High Definition). The screen is covered with a layer of nanocrystals that color under the effect of light, generating a much wider palette. This advanced technique significantly pushes the boundaries of image quality,”explains the brand.
The promise: more faithful colors and more shades (up 20%), more details, more intense blacks, purer whites, better brightness with controlled energy consumption. We can’t wait to see what that could do with the OLED.
