Samsung: Exynos 7890 in 14nm, next-gen processor already in development

While the Galaxy S6 is only about to be released soon, Samsung is already largely at the maneuver on the sequel. And more precisely, on the future SoC Exynos which, armed with many innovations, will have the heavy task of equipping the next devices of the Korean brand while converting other manufacturers. A big gamble that has been going on for several years now.

This is thus two new references of Exynos processors that have just appeared via … a LinkedIn profile just relayed by our colleagues at Phonearena. And one thing is for sure, Samsung intends to move forward on these new SoCs and fight hard to impose itself in this hyper-competitive niche.

Note that the Korean firm puts all the assets on its side, so the latest benchmarks of the Exynos series 7 seems to testify to a power at the best possible level. The confrontation with the great American rival Qualcomm will be even tastier because Snapdragon is still widely used on mobile devices.

But the war takes a new turn with the latest revelations of the documents published here. As we already assumed. Samsung is reportedly getting ahead of Qualcomm. The Korean firm could thus be very advanced on a new processor engraved in 14nm. Its great rival, with the Snapdragon 810, would be only 20nm of fine engraving this year.

This is how the Exynos 7890 appears on today’s document as well as a mysterious 7650 with the words “first 64-bit SoC”. The latter is particularly intriguing, as the supposed tests of the Galaxy S6, a 64-bit device, are performed on an Exynos 7420 with formidable performance.

What do we need to understand? Maybe the Galaxy S6 will be equipped with an Exynos 7650 rather than a less advanced version, the 7420. The theory is plausible. In any case, there are several rumors that a large majority of Galaxy S6s are equipped with Exynos processors rather than SoC Snapdragon. Take out the popcorn, the show’s just getting started.
