Samsung claims to have created an “unbreakable”OLED screen. Aimed at smartphones, tablets, consoles and the automotive world, the screen is capable of surviving more than 26 falls 1.2 meters above the ground, the Korean manufacturer promises.
“Samsung Display has developed a new flexible OLED display with an unbreakable substrate and an integrated glass protective layer,” explains the South Korean firm. In a statement, Samsung also pointed the finger at the screens currently on the market, whose “glued protective glass breaks at the slightest shock.”

“The fortified plastic window is particularly suitable for portable electronic devices because of its lightness, and its glass-like hardness,” explains Hojung Kim, Director of Communications at Samsung Display.
To prove this, Samsung has had its new OLED screen certified by Underwriters Laboratories, an official U.S. quality control laboratory. The organization has passed several sustainability tests “based on military standards” to the new screen developed by Samsung.
Even stronger than Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6 protection, Samsung’s OLED display is capable of withstanding more than 26 falls from a height of 1.2 meters by “continuing to operate normally. There is no visible damage to the corners or surface of the screen during the tests. The OLED slab also cashes in a few falls from a height of 1.8 meters and extreme temperatures (between 71 degrees and-32 degrees), the statement added.
According to our colleagues at 9to5Mac, Samsung has integrated this new screen into its new Galaxy Note 9, which will be presented on August 9, 2018 in New York. For our part, Samsung is expected to reserve its new find to the Galaxy S10 or Galaxy X, both of which are expected in early 2019.
