Samsung prepares for the mass arrival of 6GB RAM LPDDR4 chips

Until a few years ago, designing 2 or 3GB of RAM within our smartphones could seem difficult, it was forgetting that in the field of research few things are impossible. Today, these capabilities have become commonplace to such an extent that Samsung has just launched mass production of 12 Gb LPDDR4 RAM chips,a power concentrate paving the way for 6GB of RAM smartphones.

Imagine all that could be possible with a phone offering so much RAM, multi-task capabilities pushed far, far away and you would avoid looking to increase your smartphone RAM… This will soon be reality thanks to a Samsung-specific technique that engraves the chip in 20 nm and thus prepares the space for 6GB RAM terminals.

This new chip will offer 1.5GB of memory per unit. It will make real improvements in the possibilities of future mobiles. These dynamic RAM chips offer the greatest capabilities and allow for an increase in computational speed. They meet the energy-saving criteria by “consuming less, being more reliable and easy to shape.” In other words: the must.

LPDDR4 RAM 12Gb chips are advertised as 30% faster than those occupying our smartphones today with speeds of 4.2666 Mbps. Twice as fast while consuming 20% less energy, like the Snapdragon 820 consuming 30% less. What is most interesting after these figures is that Samsung’s new chip will take up no more space than a 3GB model, an advantage that will greatly facilitate the task of manufacturers.

The chips are 50% more compact,so manufacturers will be able to fit 6GB of RAM into the same spaces offered at the moment. In fact, the current 3GB standards could be retained, the 6GB chip would only take up half the space allocated.

This announcement of Korean is a real feat as the search for free space within our mobile devices becomes difficult. Every millimetre counts, whether it’s for RAM but also (and especially) for the battery that always requires more capacity and therefore more space. Samsung is not only considering its chip on phones but it may well be that the future Galaxy 7 is a model equipped with this chip.
