Snapdragon 810: Operator warns customers of overheating problems

Launched earlier this year and inaugurated by the LG G Flex 2, the Snapdragon 810, Qualcomm’s first octo core 64 Bit chip for high-end devices, had everything to become the flagship processor of 2015. Then, several reports highlighted its tendency to overheat before it was learned that Samsung had decided to rule it out to adopt a home solution on its Galaxy S6. Today, the Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo warns its customers.

A poster warning consumers about the potential overheating problems of the Snapdragon 810 processor has been spotted in one of the NTT operator DoCoMo’s stores. It concerns three newer devices equipped with Qualcomm’s Soc, which are the Sharp Aquos Zeta, the Fujitsu Arrows NX and the Sony Xperia Z4, marketed here as Xperia Z3.

This is all the more surprising because the Xperia Z4/Z3 is carrying a revised version of the Snapdragon 810. Still, NTT DoCoMo preferred to take the lead and gives some practical advice for users of these three smartphones which are:

  • Turn off the phone periodically
  • Keep the device completely off while charging
  • Make regular backup of your data
  • Reduce phone use by using a tablet or PC when possible

Of course, when you have just paid more than 600 euros in a new smartphone, you have no desire to turn it off either during the charge or at any other time. It should of course be kept in mind that this warning was issued by an operator and not by Qualcomm himself, so it has no official value. NTT DoCoMo is obviously trying to protect itself, even if it means getting a little bigger.
