The first smartphone with a diamond screen will be released in 2019

The first smartphone with a diamond screen is currently in the testing phase and is expected to be released as early as 2019. According to Akhan Semiconductor, the company behind this innovation, a diamond screen is 6 times stronger and 10 times harder than a traditional touchscreen. How does it work? What can we expect from diamond screens?

Never damaged your smartphone’s precious touchscreen? You’re lucky: many phones have a completely cracked and broken display slab. Despite the increasingly widespread Gorilla Glassprotective layers, our smartphones are not yet indestructible. As we know, repairing a smartphone screen is also very expensive. In the case of an iPhone X, the price of repairing its OLED screen even reaches 321.10 euros.

The first smartphone with an indestructible diamond screen is being tested

To overcome this fragility, deplored by all users, akhan Semiconductor has designed the Mirage Diamond Glass, a screen designed from nano crystals made in the laboratory. As our colleagues at CNET explain, this diamond screen of a new kind cracks less easily than any other type of screen. It can even be added to the top of a standard Gorilla Glass protection. Only downside: a diamond screen is obviously much more expensive than a traditional screen.

As we write these lines, the Mirage Diamond Glass is still being tested. At the heart of the experts’ concerns: the responsiveness and fluidity of the touch screen and the reflectance of the diamond screen. Simply put, Akhan Semiconductor wants to make sure its diamond screen doesn’t return too much light before marketing it.

Adam Khan, CEO of Akhan Semiconductor, had promised to roll out diamond screens by the end of 2017. As you might have guessed, the release of the Mirage Diamond Glass has been postponed. The executive now says the first smartphone with a diamond screen will be released in 2019. As we told you in 2017, only one smartphone manufacturer will first benefit from Akhan’s diamond screens, and according to CNET, it will not be one of the market leaders, such as Apple, Samsung, Huawei or Xiaomi.

Until the screens of our smartphones are indestructible, we advise you to take great care of them. To protect yourself from scratches and scratches, you’ll be told how to install screen protection on your smartphone. So, what do you think of diamond screens? Would you be willing to pay more for your smartphone to enjoy quality protection?
