WhatsApp increasingly secure: protection and verification via email coming to Android

The update of WhatsApp Beta to version 2.23.16.15 hides an interesting novelty: it is a security function not yet available even for members of the program on the Play Store but that WABetaInfo has managed to intercept in advance before its release.

The tool, it was said, is still under development and will further enhance the security systems that the platform updated last April. The following screen clearly shows the news: WhatsApp will allow in the future to increase the level of protection of the account by entering your e-mail address. It reads:

“Your email is used to protect and verify your account”

It is not yet entirely clear how and – above all – when this security function will be employed by WhatsApp to protect and verify the account. WABetaInfo specifies that this is an optional feature, different from the one that requires the email address during the two-step verification process.

We also remember that WhatsApp has announced the arrival of a novelty that has the potential to considerably change the way we interact with others, in private and group exchanges. The rollout of instant video messages has started, but at least in our case still no trace: we tried on iOS and Android with the WhatsApp app updated to the latest version available but nothing, the video messages are not there yet. Please let us know if you notice any movement.

WhatsApp, however, clearly specifies that the distribution of instant video messages will take time, there is to be patient: “We have already started to implement video messages and in the coming weeks they will be available to everyone”. The operation of the novelty is clear: just press and hold the camera icon to the right of the text box to start recording a video message, set to 1 minute the maximum duration. They are protected with end-to-end encryption.
