Why is Amazon ending its free streaming service?

Apparently, the free streaming service is dead; long live Freevee: Amazon shutters free streaming service, will relaunch later this year.
came streaming giant has declared its intention to discontinue Freevee – its free streaming service. Until now, it let the viewers stream movies, TV shows and even live channels for free.

”Freevee” has now aligned with the Prime Video. An Amazon representative said to Variety, ‘Prime Video has been established as an entertainment hub that lets viewers fit their preferences, including exclusive Prime Video content from Amazon MGM Studios, licensed movies and series, content from other services through an add-on subscription, live sports, big budget movies and series available for rent or purchase, FAST [free, ad-supported streaming TV] channels, and the entire Amazon Freevee streaming portfolio.’bers produced by Amazon MGM Studios, licensed movies and series, content from other services as an add-on subscription, live sports, big-budget movies and series to rent or buy, FAST [free, ad-supported streaming TV] channels and the entire Amazon Freevee content offering.”

The end of a just naively designed user experience
However, Freevee will be incorporated into Prime Video over time steadily. Unsubscribed users may find they have to scroll through paid content or deals in order to sign up for a subscription, which would make their experience worse than that of Freevee. Here at Tom’s Guide we think Freevee is the best free streaming service. His death is therefore displeasure.

All of Freevee’s content remains mainstream.
It can be assumed that the convergence between Freevee and Prime Video is now so extensive that the former has been closed, and its content has been integrated into the latter. Thanks to the ad-supported tier, watching Prime Video is very close to the experience customers can access while using Freevee. Contrary to it’s free content strategy, Freevee will not shut down but be moved under the umbrella of the Prime Video. Amazon wants to continue making reviews of shows and movies Freevee offers available through Prime Video’s free streaming channels, meaning lots of folks will persistently have access to a fairly decent amount of free stuff.

However, the new ad-supported offering on Prime Video has made the platform less user-friendly. Prime Video used to be known for its ad-free streaming, but now ads are becoming the norm unless users pay more on top of their existing subscription. In addition, the viewing experience is likely to deteriorate since Prime Video plans to introduce more ads in 2025.
