Xiaomi, Huawei and Oppo: mini LED screens for some smartphones rather than OLED
Chinese manufacturers are forced to miss out on OLED screens for mid-range devices, huawei for example like its Mate 10 Pro will continue to offer these screens for its most ambitious terminals. We can also consider that this will be the case on the Huawei P20 (or P11). The mini LED does not have the same properties as the OLED since it is necessary to have an backlight for its proper operation. The performance would be close to the OLED nevertheless according to the manufacturers despite this small detail.
Production will be launched in the second half of 2018,so there is a chance of discovering smartphones equipped with this type of screens before the end of this year or at the beginning of 2019 at the latest. Consumers will be able to judge on piece by piece the quality of the mini LED screens at that time. In the meantime, LG and Samsung are likely to continue to invest heavily in their production plants to increase the pace to meet the growing demand for OLED screens in the coming years.
