Snapdragon 810 vs Exynos 7420: Samsung outperforms Qualcomm on benchmarks!

Every year tons of new smartphones are unveiled, but also new internal components, of course. Last year Qualcomm and its Snapdragon had a huge market share, although it is still number 1 and its latest generation Snapdragon 810 will be present on more than 60 smartphones, the Galaxy S6 will not be part of these.

This famous Galaxy S6 is highly anticipated and would have a homemade Exynos processor, the 7420.But has Samsung worked on it enough to make it at least equivalent to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810? You’ll find out right away with these benchmark comparisons of the two processors.

But first, let’s take stock of the two protagonists. On the one hand we have the Snapdragon 810, a 64-bit processor of 4-core A53 of 1.5 GHz and 4 A57 cores of 2 GHz and accompanied by the GPU Adreno 430.

On the other, we have the Exynos 7420, a 64-bit processor of 4 A53 cores of 1.5 GHz and 4 A57 cores of 2.1 GHz and accompanied by the GPU Mali-T760. Their real difference is found in the fine engraving, 20 nm for Qualcomm and 14 nm for Samsung.

The first comparison will be made on Geekbench benchmark tests, tests on processor capabilities on a single or multiple core. As you can see, Samsung and its Exynos 7420 are the winner on both counts. The most impressive is the difference between the Snapdragon and the Exynos on multi-core performance, the latter would be 22.3% more efficient.

In terms of performance for a single heart, the gap is smaller, but exynos still wins with a score 13.3% higher. At the moment Qualcomm really doesn’t win this comparison, but as I’ll remind you several times, these are just scores so it’s up to you to take this information with tweezers.

Then let’s move on to the second, a more comprehensive AnTuTu comparison that can tell us where both are better. Overall, it is once again theExynos 7420 that wins with 7 top scores against only 4 for the Snapdragon 810.

First, the Snapdragon takes a very small (2 point) lead over multitasking and more broadly over the CPU itself as well as the speed of RAM and 2D performance. The Exynos, on the other hand, is much better in terms of running time as well as all other elements based on the CPU, the speed of operation of the RAM, the speed of writing/reading of the internal storage as well as the database.

The result on 3D is not taken into account since the Snapdragon 810 was tested on a device with a 4K screen while the Exynos 7420 was tested on a 2K screen only. The comparison of the two scores is therefore worthless and would be unfair to Qualcomm’s processor.

Samsung would therefore have been better off than Qualcomm for its new generation of processor with a visible superiority in almost all areas. Of course, these are just numbers, but it seems that the South Korean manufacturer has made the right choice for its Galaxy S6, moreover, the Exynos 7890 would already be in preparation. What about you, More Snapdragon 810 or Exynos 7420?
